What Memory does
Without Memory, you must tell Ask AI about your goals in each new thread. With Memory, Ask AI already knows them. It uses them to change how it answers.
Memory can come from your chats, highlights, notes, voice notes, sources, artifacts, assessments and files. You can also add details yourself. Each memory shows its origin, for example From chat or Added by you.
Memory is on paid plans. On the free plan, the Memory tab shows Upgrade to activate memory.
See what Gistr remembers
- Open Settings.
- Select Memory.
- Look at Memory notes. Gistr groups them by topic.
- Select a topic to see its details.
If the list is empty, use Gistr as normal. Memory builds up over time.
Add, change or remove a memory
Tell Gistr what to change in plain words. Type in the box in the Memory section, then send it. For example:
- "My exam moved to March."
- "I am no longer a student."
- "Forget that I work on genomics."
Gistr then changes its memory to match your message.
Turn Memory off
- Open Settings, then Memory.
- Turn off Enable memory.
You can turn it on again at any time with the same switch.
If you delete a thread, Gistr does not delete the memories that came from it. To remove a memory, use the box in the Memory section.
Personalization is different from Memory
Memory is what Gistr learns. Personalization is what you tell Gistr directly. Open Settings, then Personalization. You can set these items:
- Nickname, Occupation and More about you
- Custom instructions, for example "Define technical terms the first time you use them"
- Response length and Explanation style
- Response language
Import what another assistant knows
If you use ChatGPT or Claude, you can bring your context to Gistr. You do not need to type it again.
- Open Settings, then Personalization.
- Select Import memory.
- Copy the prompt that Gistr shows.
- Paste the prompt into your other assistant and send it.
- Copy the response, then paste it into the box in Gistr.
- Check the details, then select Import memory.
