Your first thread

This guide takes you from a new account to your first study plan. It takes about five minutes.

Create an account

You can sign in with Continue with email, Continue with Google or Continue with Apple. If you use email, Gistr sends you a code. Type the code to continue.

Gistr then asks some short questions: your name, what describes you, and what you want to achieve. Gistr uses your answers to suggest what to do first.

You can try Gistr without an account. A guest account has 100 credits, and these credits do not refill. Sign up to get 500 credits each month.

Add your first source

  1. On the home page, find the box that says Type a question or paste a link to start a thread.
  2. Paste a link, for example a YouTube video. To upload a file, select Add sources, then New source.
  3. Select Ask, or press Enter.
  4. Wait while Gistr prepares your thread. It then opens the chat.

Ask a question

Type a question in the chat. For example, ask "What are the main points?" Gistr answers from your source and adds citations. Select a citation to go to that part of the source.

To keep an answer, select Save to page. The answer goes into your notes.

Make a study plan

To remember what you learned, select Study space in the thread, then make a plan. Gistr divides the source into sections. Each section has a reading, flashcards and a quiz. Read Study space for the full steps.

What to try next

  • Add a second source to the same thread, then compare them with Compare sources. See Ask AI.
  • Make a slide deck or a podcast from your sources. See Artifacts.
  • Install the browser extension and save pages as you read. See Inbox and extension.
